motor racing paintings
Stuart Booth was born in London towards the end of the second world war, read engineering at Bath University in the swinging 60’s, leading to a career as a Chartered Engineer, first in airframe design and then in the electricity generating industry. Now in retirement he has been able to indulge his lifelong interests in all forms of transport by land, sea and air, but especially his passion for Formula 1 Grand Prix racing and sports car racing; combining this with his love of painting results in vibrant artwork, in oils on canvas. A leading member of the Guild of Motoring Artists, Stuart’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout England and at major motor sporting venues including the Donington collection, Silverstone Classic, Goodwood Festival and Revival and the BRDC member’s marquee at the British Grand Prix.  Stuart’s paintings have sold in the UK and across the world.

….commissions

Inquiries for possible commissions are always welcomed - perhaps a painting of your own vehicle, a memory of a favourite event or a retirement present for a colleague.  The images on this website may give inspiration for the subject for your own artwork.  An extensive reference library is available but it is always helpful if the client can supply specific photographs or other reference material. The normal process is for the artist to produce pencil sketches to allow the basic composition to be agreed and one or more colour images of the work in progress. As the byline ‘art-in-motion’ implies, the subject of most of the paintings is speed and movement.  In particular the motor racing paintings portray the drama and brutal power of the sport, aiming to capture an impression of speed, whilst retaining accuracy of outline and detail.  Stuart’s favoured subjects are the classic eras of grand prix and sports car racing from the inter-war years up to the 60’s and 70’s, when an enthusiast could get close to cars and drivers, but more contemporary images do also feature in his portfolio. Currently working exclusively in oils, Stuart favours the medium for its flexibility and both the intensity and subtlety of colour.  This website focuses on original artwork but a number of images are available as prints and cards….
Prints are now available of a selection of motor racing, motorcycle racing, classic car and railway artwork: prints & cards
